SFMS Recognized for Collaboration

Nonprofit Innovation Award Finalist
February 24, 2010

Susquehanna Folk was one of seven finalists in the Collaboration category at the eleventh annual Nonprofit Innovation Awards. This program of the Central Penn Business Journal recognizes innovation in the daily operations of local nonprofit organizations.

SFMS was noted for its collaborations with community and public interest groups. We do have rich and active partnerships throughout our community, with other music organizations (Blues Society of Central PA, Songside.com), libraries (York's Martin Library, Camp Hill's Fredricksen Library), schools (including artist-in-residence programs with local school districts), cultural organizations (such as York and Harrisburg St. Patrick's Day Parade committees), local businesses, and organizations that bring the arts to underserved populations.

An independent panel of judges evaluated qualified nominees and determined the finalists. Overall, 35 local nonprofit organizations and their leaders were recognized in five categories: "Brand Identity/Unique Marketing Campaign," "Collaboration," "Programs," "Management Operations," and "Nonprofit Leadership Excellence."

The Nonprofit Innovation Awards program recognizes originality, effectiveness, measurability, efficient utilization of resources, and potential as a model for other organizations.

The event was sponsored by: Highmark Blue Shield; Brown Schultz Sheridan & Fritz; Metro Bank; Suasion, LLC; Temple University Harrisburg Nonprofit Evaluation, Services and Training Center; Harsco Corporation; Philadelphia Insurance Companies; Reager & Adler PC; and Schaedler Yesco Distribution. The Nonprofit Innovation Awards are a program of the Central Penn Business Journal. The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, the York County Community Foundation and the Lancaster County Community Foundation are founding partners of the program.
