Susquehanna Folk Cabaret
The electrifying, carefree atmosphere of an old-world cabaret (á la Paris's Moulin Rouge) came to life in the Gallery of the Appalachian Brewery in Harrisburg, PA on June 24, 2012. The benefit event raised $3,000 to support future SFMS programming.
Some attendees really got into the spirit of the evening, dressed to impress the judges of our Costume Contest with elegant 1920s attire. At right, Ed & Laura Horan rocked the black-and-white theme. Below, former Board member Matt Peterson joins Kathryn (center) and Julia Hayden. Longtime volunteer Bruce Kolka was another winner of the Costume Contest.
The Silent Auction was another fun part of the evening, with a tempting array of items from local business owners and friends of folk. At right, Board President Steve Wennberg and wife Nancy enjoy the evening.
And let's not forget the music! Three local bands provided nonstop entertainment: Voxology, featuring the honeyed singing of Les Vonderlin and the guitar wizardry of Kevin Neidig; Hot Club du Jour, paying homage to the pre-WWII music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli; and Acoustic Stew (pictured below), playing everything from roots blues to contemporary light rock.
Thanks to everyone who attended and to the many Silent Auction bidders. Thanks to Ann & Dave Royer, proprietors of the Amanda Gish Bed and Breakfast in Elizabethtown, PA, who offered the prize for our Fill A Table raffle. Thanks to the Appalachian Brewery staff, to Auction coordinator Bart Carpenter, and to the members of the Cabaret Committee.
