About Israeli Dance:
Unlike traditional folk dances from other nationalities, which have usually been handed down from generation to generation without known creators, Israeli folk dancing has come to life roughly in parallel with the modern State of Israel, i.e., since 1948. New dances have been created and introduced almost continuously in the intervening 60 years; in most cases, the choreographer is known and the dance is associated with a specific piece of music. The dances will be of interest to anyone interested in ethnic dancing.
About Miriam Rosenwasser:
Trained in classical ballet, Miriam Rosenwasser has performed professionally in both Modern Dance and Folk Dance companies. For many years she taught ballet, international dance and her own Creative Movement program in her own studio as well as other venues around Central Pennsylvania. She has taught Israeli folk dancing for more than 20 years at area schools and synagogues and has served as choreographer, festival director and artist in residence around the area.
