Four International Dance workshops
at Locust Lane

SFMS welcomes Montreal-based dance teacher Jocelyne Vaillancourt for her fourth SFMS appearance. She is in the U.S. to attend a performance of Ahmet Lüleci's ensemble, Collage, at Bucknell (see below), and has agreed to oversee a "Day of Dance" for us in Harrisburg. The dance material is international, with a focus on Balkan and Middle Eastern dances, and becomes progressively easier over the course of the day.

"Prequel" Event:
Collage Ensemble at Bucknell

(Not part of the Day of Dance and not sponsored by SFMS)

The internationally acclaimed Collage Dance Ensemble, directed by SFMS-favorite Ahmet Lüleci, will make its first Pennsylvania appearance in concert at Bucknell University's Weis Center (Lewisburg) at 8 pm on Friday, February 12. Tickets are $20. Among other things, the group will perform the Transylvanian choreography, "Balkan Blues," a 3-minute portion of which Ahmet taught here as part of his master dance class in 2007.

Visit Bucknell's website for more info »

The mission of the Boston-based dance company is to promote harmony between people from different cultural and social backgrounds. Integrating Eastern European, Turkish, Israeli, and other traditional performance practices with modern Western techniques, Collage Ensemble grew out of Ahmet Lüleci's desire to make folk dance and music more accessible and interesting to general audiences. Collage showcases the beauty, energy, and passion of neglected dance forms and the cultural heritages they represent.
