Official Rules
Summer 2008 -- SFMS is sponsoring its Third Annual Songwriting Contest. Once again, a panel of judges will select three finalists from all entries. The final competition will be held at our Fall Coffee House, where the three finalists will perform their songs, and the audience will select the final winner. Cash prizes will be awarded: $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third.

Deadline for entries is October 12, 2008. So polish up that song you’ve been working on, record it on a cassette tape or CD, type up the lyrics, and send it in!

Official Rules
- Only one entry permitted per person.
- Entry must be an original work.
- The style and content should be consistent with a Folk music style.
- Contestant must have written both the music and the lyrics for the song.
- Contestants do not need to be members of The Susquehanna Folk Music Society.
- Entry must include:
- a recording of your song on cassette tape or CD
- a typed copy of the lyrics
- A completed Official Entry form
- Tapes and CDs will not be returned by SFMS. SFMS recognizes that it has no rights to any of the songs submitted. All rights belong to the song writer.
- SFMS will establish a panel of judges to review all entries and select three finalists. The decision of this panel will be final.
- The composers of the three songs selected as finalists must agree to perform their songs before a live audience at the SFMS Coffeehouse on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Fort Hunter Barn. The audience will be asked to vote for their favorite. Prizes will be awarded for First Place ($100), Second Place ($50) and Third Place ($25). (In the event of a tie, the chairperson of the judging panel will cast the deciding vote.)
- Employees of the Susquehanna Folk Music Society and members of its board of directors and their immediate families are not eligible to participate.
- The grand prize winner from any year's contest must sit out one year before being eligible to enter again.
- Deadline for entries is October 12, 2008.
The Songwriting Contest is sponsored by Highmark through a volunteerism program recognizing Highmark employee Jim Richardson, who serves as moderator for our judging panel.
