Volunteering with SFMS

Even a little means a lot.

Without our volunteers, stages would be silent, chairs folded, dance floors dark and quiet. You make the difference! Even a few minutes helping out at an event is a great way to support SFMS and to become part of a vibrant folk community.

To learn more, email volunteers@sfmsfolk.org or leave a message at (717) 745-6577 — or just sign up using the "Lend a Hand" button on our event pages.

What do volunteers do?

COORDINATOR:

The concert coordinator is responsible for insuring all volunteer positions are filled for the concert. If a position is open or a volunteer was a no-show, the coordinator will find a person to fill that position or act in the capacity of that position. The coordinator should arrive at the concert 90 minutes prior to the concert start and should stay until final cleanup has been completed. The coordinator will receive 1 free ticket for that specific concert.

STAGE/SOUND SETUP:

Volunteers for Stage/Sound setup will assist the concert Sound Engineer in setting up the stage area and the sound equipment. Volunteers should arrive at the concert venue 5 hours prior to the concert start.

TABLES/CHAIRS SETUP:

Volunteers for Tables/Chairs Setup will be responsible for setting up audience seating for the concert, as well as tables required to support the concert. Volunteers should arrive at the concert venue 3 hours prior to the concert start.

(Fort Hunter only) Volunteers will bring snacks to the concert (enough to support 5 concert attendees). Volunteers should arrive at the concert venue 1 hour prior to the concert start.

MERCHANDISE SALES:

Volunteers will be responsible for selling artist merchandise before and after the concert and during intermission. Volunteers should arrive at the concert venue 1 hour prior to the concert start. (Fort Hunter only) Volunteers will be responsible for setting up and taking down all equipment required to support snacks for the concert. Volunteers should arrive at the concert venue 1 hour prior to the concert start. For setup, volunteers will bring snack equipment from bins in the Fort Hunter storage area; arrange snacks, drinks, and donation jars on tables; start coffee and hot water. For takedown, starting immediately after intermission, volunteers will clean up the snack areas; wash dishes & utensils; pack up unused snacks and return them to the people who brought them; repack snack equipment in the storage bins and place the bins in the storage area. Donation jar money should be handed to the SFMS Executive Director.

TABLES/CHAIRS TAKEDOWN:

Volunteers will be responsible for taking down all seating and tables that supported the concert. For concerts held at Fort Hunter, they will also be responsible for vacuuming the carpet. They will also gather all trash from the concert and make sure it is taken to the appropriate disposal area. Volunteers are expected to stay until all above tasks are completed.

STAGE/SOUND TAKEDOWN:
