CapLive presents the Carolina Chocolate Drops

CapLive presents the Carolina Chocolate Drops with Waitin' on a Train opening: Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Capitol Theatre, Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 North George St in York, PA. Susquehanna Folk members get a $2 admission discount!

The Carolina Chocolate Drops (three young black musicians: Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens, and Justin Robinson) play the old-time music of the Carolina Piedmont. Along the way, they've added blues songs, Gaelic acappella, and flat-footing to their repertoire, while bringing a modern energy to old tunes like John Henry and Sally Ann. In 2008, they became the first black string band to play the Grand Ole Opry.

Rolling Stone Magazine described the Carolina Chocolate Drops' style as "dirt-floor-dance electricity". If you ask the band, that is what matters most. Yes, banjos and black string musicians first got here on slave ships, but now this is everyone's music. It's OK to mix it up and go where the spirit moves.
