Sviraj: montage of the band's four members

SFMS and World Dance Lancaster welcome you to our annual dance party: RADfest! featuring Steelton's renowned tambura ensemble Sviraj. It will be an evening of joyous music and folk dance honoring the memory of Dr. Syd Radinovsky ("Dr Rad"), founder of Millersville University's International Folk Dance Club, precurser to World Dance Lancaster.

Bring something yummy to share at the potluck dinner, then dance to the fabulous Eastern European music of Sviraj. The Williamson Pavilion, located in scenic Lancaster County Central Park, has a wonderful sprung woooden floor (perfect for dancing!) and the lovely views and scents of nature.

The members of Sviraj are childhood friends and descendents of immigrants from the Balkan peninsula who revel in the passionate music of Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, and the Roma people. Pronounced SVEE-rye with a rolled R, the band's name means "PLAY ON!" and is shouted in encouragement when a tamburitza musician is playing with special energy and inspiration.
