What is Balfolk?
BalFolk is a new-wave folk music and dance revival sweeping across Europe and now the US. BalFolk dances are fun and accessible contemporary variations on much older dances like bourrée, mazurka, scottische, cerc circassien, an dro, gavotte, waltz and more. The music is lively and driving, leaning into the pulse and rhythms of ancient traditions with fresh arrangements and instrumentation.
Who is Millevaches?
Band members are Leslie Barr on fiddle; Bill Quern on melodeon, mandolin & banjo; Laura Alexander on cello; and Sarah Gowan on guitar. Millevaches plays music rooted in France and Western Europe for Balfolk dances.
