“Bil Lepp is the Wonder Bra of storytelling. He takes something small and insignificant and pushes it up into something realllly BIG and miiiighty interesting!” — Barbara McBride Smith

Bil Lepp’s outrageous, humorous tall-tales and witty stories have earned the appreciation of listeners of all ages and from all walks of life. Growing up in a family where the truth was fluid, Bil became adept at spinning tales and exaggerating circumstances at an early age. While his stories may not be completely true, they are always honest.

Chaos Doesn’t Happen on Its Own

A Storytelling Workshop for Adults
2pm - 3:30pm on Zoom

Bil Lepp’s stories often move simple everyday acts and occurrences into complex, layered tall tales. How does the chaos happen? Through a few careful, but easy, steps. Want to find out what those steps are? This workshop will look at avenues of exploration and research to help you build the foundation for well-told lies, falsehoods and exaggerations — so your audience walks away giggling and thinking, “Yep, that’s what would happen if...”

LIVE Storytelling and Conversation

4pm Live-stream Performance

After the workshop, we'll go on the air with Bil for an hour of truth-stretching, shaggy dogs and outright whoppers, and a chat with a SFMS community member.

Bil, who lives in Charleston, WV, is the author of six books and sixteen audio collections. His first children’s book, The King of Little Things, won several awards and was chosen to be West Virginia's book at the National Book Festival. Lepp has been featured 15 times at the National Storytelling Festival, and his festival appearances include the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

“With Lepp, the sorry, low-down lie becomes a grand and glorious creation, a verbal sculpture in which a hundred small fibs, stretchers, falsehoods and prevarications are piled together, shaped and molded into one stunning, awe-inspiring cathedral of flapdoodle and bull.” — Bob Wells, Duke Divinity Magazine
