September Open Mic
September 24, 2023 6-9 pm at the West Shore Theatre
About This Event:
Join our Open Mic community for an evening of live music and entertainment from fine local folkies. Come with your friends to enjoy the performances or maybe even take center stage yourself! We are thrilled to collaborate with The West Shore Theatre, one of the most beautiful venues in the area.
BRING YOUR FRIENDS!
Meeting up with a group? Consider a booth or table! Special seating can be purchased through the box office, either online (links below) or at the theatre. The online ticket page includes a handy seating map.
Standard seating is FREE and unreserved, and these are typical theater seats: rising rows of upholstered seats that fold. High-top tables are $12 and seat 2. These have a great view, as they are on a platform above and behind the standard seats, with the concession area behind them. Booths are $25 and seat 4 to 6, great for chatting with friends. Booths line both side walls of the house.
The theatre boasts a full movie style concession stand featuring popcorn, candy, nachos, bagged snacks, sodas, water, lemonade, iced tea, and beer and wine sold by Appalachian Brewing Company. Your purchases support this lovely venue.
YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING...
What musical styles are welcome?
We welcome a diversity of musical styles, originals and covers, and poetry too. We love to hear folks make music.
How long will each artist play?
That will always be a little fluid depending on how many folks sign up, but we suggest planning for a 10 minute set — think two songs and maybe another as backup.
How do I sign up? and when should I arrive?
Be there when doors open at 5:15, find our host and put your name on the list! There are 12 spots, and they could go fast, so arrive early to sign up.
What's the sound setup?
Our expert sound crew will be ready to amplify you, or your band, with 3 microphones and 3 direct inputs.
Are all instruments welcome? Do I need to bring my own?
All instruments are welcome as long as they can be moved on and off stage quickly. We can accommodate light percussion such as hand drums or cajons, but not full drum sets. There will be no backline provided, so bring whatever instruments you need.
Can my whole band play?
Yes! In the interest of speedy turn-around between acts, we recommend keeping it simple.
How do I get there? Where do I park?
Two parking lots are located within a few hundred yards of the theatre, and on-street parking is also available. Visit the theatre's website for a parking map and directions.
Due to West Shore Theater’s obligations in showing quality first-run films, it has become difficult to run monthly Open Mic Nights on a consistent basis that doesn’t interfere with scheduled movie show times.
Here’s the good news though! We’ve shifted Open Mic to a NEW QUARTERLY FORMAT, running on Sundays every three months or so. While this sadly means we will be gathering less often, it does mean we have dates our whole Open Mic community can plan on, and Open Mics can remain three hours long.
