Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble

Four Harrisburg area musicians — all known for their skillful playing and eclectic musical tastes — sing and play jazz, swing, bluegrass, folk, pop, and whatever else they can imagine... all on mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, and octave mandolins.

During the early 20th Century, just about every major city and large town boasted a mandolin orchestra. After World War I, they went into a period of decline, but the revival of folk music traditions in the late 1950s sparked renewed interest in these instruments and in the repertoire. Mandolin orchestras are now found in many cities in the US.

The Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble draws from this tradition, but on a smaller scale. Ensemble members are Greg Rohrer on mandolin; Kevin Neidig on mandolin, octave mandolin, and vocals; Tom Cook on mandola, mandolin and vocals; and Henry Koretzky on mandocello, mandolin and vocals.

In this hour-long program for all ages, we'll enjoy some terrific music and learn more about the instruments, the music, and the history of mandolin orchestras.

Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble performs live in The Sound Room at WEEU, 830 AM in Reading, Pennsylvania. This three-piece set includes "Moonflowers" at 0:00, "Over the Waterfall/Waterbound" at 4:31, and "Monroe Medley" at 9:45.
