Jay and Molly achieved international acclaim when their performance of Jay's composition, Ashokan Farewell, became the musical hallmark of Ken Burns' The Civil War on PBS. The soundtrack won a Grammy, and Ashokan Farewell was nominated for an Emmy. The piece was originally inspired by Jay & Molly's Ashokan Fiddle & Dance Camps in New York's Catskill Mountains, which are still going strong today — and breaking new ground by going online!

Jay and Molly are musicians of enormous talent who draw their repertoire and inspiration from a wide range of American musical styles: 19th-century classics, lively Appalachian, Cajun, and Celtic fiddle tunes and favorites from the golden age of country and swing, along with their own songs, fiddle tunes, and orchestral compositions.

WORKSHOP: Fiddle & Rhythm Guitar

Jay and Molly jointly lead this interactive Zoom workshop. For classes like this, they often teach “The Lovers’ Waltz,” a popular waltz that they wrote together. This 90-minute workshop allows time for questions and answers, some styling details to enhance the tune, and possibly a bit of personal attention that could benefit all who are tuned in.

After starting together, the group will split into two "rooms," one for guitar and one for fiddle. Near the end, everyone will come together again to play along with Jay and Molly.

This workshop will be geared toward intermediate & advanced players, but since participants can't hear one another, even beginners can attend without feeling self-conscious. Everyone can get something out of it.

CONCERT and Conversation

After the concert, stay tuned for live conversation as Jay & Molly chat with Autumn Moore, a SFMS Board member and bluegrass musician who is also an administrative assistant at Jay & Molly's Ashokan Center.
