The 2013-2014 Concert Series presents...

Goitse

Sunday, March 9, 2014
Matinée Concert 4:00 pm
Irish Session after the concert
at Appalachian Brewing Company

Forged in the white-hot creative crucible of Limerick University's Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, the quintet Goitse* have graduated with a musical maturity worthy of the greatest. They have made a name for themselves as one of the most sought-after bands amongst connoisseurs of Irish Traditional music, having won feverish critical plaudits for their Dónal Lunny-produced second album Transformed.

"They have a big musical imagination and aren't afraid to tear at the edges of the trad envelope."Irish Music Magazine (Sean Laffey)

Their distinctive sound lies in the quality of their own compositions interspersed with well-known traditional tunes, which make each set entertaining and unique. The gripping rhythm section sets a breathtaking pace for the music, and the sweet, charismatic voice of Áine Mc Geeney draws audiences into the music in a way very few performers can achieve.

Lace up your dancing shoes and get ready for some wonderful music and fast paced fun with Goitse. Bring your instruments and join us for an Irish Session after the concert!

*Goitse (pronounced "gwee-cha") is an informal Gaelic Irish greeting meaning 'come here'.

...with Irish Blessing opening

Irish Blessing

Irish Blessing, a York (PA) based family band, has wowed audiences from New Zealand to New York. Family members Cushla Srour (keyboard/ flute/ whistles), husband Jim (bodhrán), and sons Josh (fiddle/dance) and Jonathon (wooden flute/dance) are joined by newest member Genevieve Gillespie (vocals, fiddle & dance). They blend driving rhythm, soaring vocals and hard hitting percussive step dance into one traditional Irish experience. Artificial and watered down it is not. With World Championships in both Irish music and dance under their belts, four tours of Michael Flately's Lord of the Dance, and in America's Got Talent with HAMMERSTEP (a dance fusion group based out of Brooklyn), Irish Blessing brings the very best of the tradition to you.

...and the Coyle School of Irish Dance

Performers from the Coyle School of Irish Dance in New Cumberland will be performing traditional Irish step dance during the concert.
