Kevin Burke and Cal Scott first met while working on a documentary about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland. Cal was commissioned to compose the score and he engaged Kevin as a consultant on the project. They enjoyed working together so much that when it was completed they continued to spend time together, playing, recording and exchanging musical ideas. We last saw them here at Fort Hunter in 2008, when they were touring with their first CD, Across the Black River.

Their new CD, Suite, is a mix of traditional and self-penned pieces, including "The Irish Session Suite", which arranges ten traditional tunes in four movements for string quartet. Kevin's Irish fiddle leads some of the Pacific Northwest's finest classical players through Cal's masterful score, producing an absorbing blend of traditional and classical string playing.

Cal Scott is a remarkable musician whose professional credentials span from traditional to bluegrass to jazz and everything in between. He plays guitar, but also mandolin and brass, and is a member of the 8-piece folk ensemble The Trail Band. Cal has also composed dozens of scores for films and PBS documentaries, national parks and museums: music to give a story a sense of place and time.

Kevin Burke is the quintessential Irish fiddler, with a lengthy and legendary musical resume that includes the Bothy Band, Christy Moore, Micheal O' Domhnaill, Andy Irvine and Gerry O'Beirne, Patrick Street and Open House. London-born of Sligo parents, he learned to play fiddle as a boy, eventually becoming the acknowledged master of the highly-ornamented Sligo style.
