Workshop: Telling Your Own Stories
Storytelling Performance
Laura performs stories for adults and family audiences. She brings her expertise to collaborative projects worldwide, exploring social issues, peacemaking, creativity and community dialogue. Her work has varied from serving as artist-in-residence at universities to creating original theater-dance works; co-designing a playground based on a fairytale to working in conflict resolution and peace making with refugees. She is presently working on a new training process and workbook of stories for those displaced by natural disaster.

Workshop: "Telling Your Own Stories" 3:30-5:30pm
Some years ago, an African Griot from Gambia answered a question Laura Simms posed to him; "Is it important to know one's own story?" He said, "If you know your story, then you know yourself." During this workshop Laura will encourage participants to look into their lives to discover things about themselves, their pasts and the forces that made them who they are. Laura tells workshop participants: "Even if you don't think that they have a story to tell; a single detail or a single chance memory can be is a revelation." Participants will find this workshop exciting, inspirational and transforming. The group will learn about the power of storytelling -- the importance of speaking one's truth.
Potluck follows workshop, at 5:30pm.
