Lissa Schneckenburger

Made possible in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.

"World class fiddler... far from just offering one dance tune after another, simple settings allow the true beauty of the music to shine through" — Sing Out!

The traditional music of New England can be as warm and comforting as a winter fire or as potent and exhilarating as a summer thunderstorm. Fiddler and singer Lissa Schneckenburger is a master of both moods, a winsome, sweet-voiced singer who brings new life to old ballads and a skillful, dynamic fiddler who captures the driving rhythm and carefree joy of dance tunes old and new.

Lissa grew up in Maine’s active folk music and dance community. While embracing a diverse palette of musical influences, she stays true to her New England roots.

"Lissa's fiddling is artful, skillful, inventive and full of feeling. I had to listen again and again!" Folk Roots raved... "Lissa blows out the cobwebs in no uncertain fashion... Lissa Schneckenburger's name is one we ought to be hearing more of."

Fiddle Workshop 4:30-6pm

New England Fiddle

This workshop is open to fiddlers of all levels (beginning to advanced). We will start with a brief overview of New England fiddling, its stylistic elements, and its history with musical examples. The group will then learn one or two tunes from the traditional repertoire by ear. If there is time left over at the end of the workshop, the group will go over specific ornaments, and chords. All participants are required to bring a tape recorder or recording equivalent.

Guitar Workshop 4:30-6pm

DADGAD Guitar

This workshop will be an introduction to Irish-style DADGAD tuning. We’ll learn basic chord shapes with an emphasis on backing fiddle tunes. Building on the basic chords, we’ll explore alternate voicings, right hand technique, and chord theory. We'll learn to flat-pick some tunes, work out a number of chord possibilities for each, and talk about arranging. Previous experience in DADGAD is not necessary (ie. we'll start by learning how to tune from standard to DADGAD). Please bring a capo.
