The 2011-2012 Concert Series presents...

Téada

with Irish Blessing opening

Sunday, September 25, 2011
Concert 7:30 pm
UUCY, York

With engaging textural arrangements, Téada (meaning "strings" in the Irish language) revels in the vibrant traditional music of Ireland. Deftly playing up the structural intricacy of reels, jigs, and hornpipes, the band blends the raw individuality of solo artists with the contagious energy of a modern ensemble.

"Téada have delivered the freshest traditional album of the past year, unrepentantly oldschool and performed with a drive and dynamism which should put their elders and betters to shame." — Greg McAteer, Hot Press, August 2006

"One of the most deeply satisfying traditional works to come our way in some time. Téada are among the youngest of the new crop of Irish musicians but they display a fierce familiarity with the old ways. They represent the strings that bind, a group of young players bent on producing a deeply authentic sound while moving towards the cutting edge of the next generation of traditional practitioners." — Irish Music Magazine, 2004

Irish Blessing

York's own Irish Blessing has performed extensively in the PA-MD-NJ-NY area for the past several years, sharing with their audiences the finest and purest forms of traditional music and dance. The four members of the Srour family make up this versatile group, led by parents James (flute, low whistle and bodhran) and Cushla (keyboard, flute, whistles). Their two sons, Jonathon (flute and flying feet) and Joshua (fiddle and flying feet) have both achieved World Championship level status with their dance. Jonathon, who ranked fifth in the world in 2005, has toured twice with Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance. Jonathon and Joshua have performed with Eileen Ivers and with Cherish the Ladies.
