The Teetotallers is an alliance of three trad superstars: fiddler Martin Hayes (The Gloaming, Masters of Tradition, Dennis Cahill), flautist Kevin Crawford (Lúnasa, Moving Cloud), and guitarist John Doyle (Joan Baez, Solas, Liz Carroll, Green Fields of America). We're honored to have them back for a return engagement!
In 1994 John Doyle brought his brilliant and innovative guitar stylings to the nascent Irish super-group Solas, which soon took the folk and Celtic music worlds by storm. In the years since emerging as a solo artist, John has recorded two albums and has become a highly sought-after accompanist and session player for the likes of Joan Baez, Eileen Ivers, Tim O'Brien, Linda Thompson, Seamus Egan, Alison Brown and Kate Rusby.
Martin Hayes is one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music. His unique sound, his mastery of the violin, and his sense of the music's past and future combine to create an astonishing and formidable artistic intelligence. He has received major national and international awards: recently the prestigious Gradam Ceoil, Musician of the Year 2008 from the Irish language television station TG 4; a National Entertainment Award (the Irish "Grammy"), and earlier -- before the age of nineteen -- six All-Ireland fiddle championships.
Kevin Crawford is a virtuoso flute player and member of the influential Irish band Lúnasa. He was a member of Moving Cloud, the Clare-based band who recorded such critically-acclaimed albums as Moving Cloud and Foxglove, and he also recorded with Grianán, Raise The Rafters, Joe Derrane, Sean Tyrrell and on the 1994 recording The Sanctuary Sessions. His sly and often hilarious commentaries provide an added bonus.
