Longwood Gardens

Note: These passes do not guarantee concert admission. Concerts at Longwood Gardens are open to all garden visitors, and seating is limited. Clover Lane Coffee House – July 18

Some enchanted evening — with music to take home! Tickets for two to the July 18, 2008 Clover Lane Coffee House at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg (UCH), plus a collection of music to enjoy later. Five CDs and two EPs donated by the artists; two tickets donated by the church. Face value $85. Minimum bid: $35


  • Brooks West: The son of a mortician and a school teacher, this Fargo, ND native has an unusual outlook on life. His songs cover subjects ranging from death and destruction to love and hope... and even the occasional ballad to office supplies. The auction includes the complete Brooks West collection:
    • self titled (2001) His first CD, including the special number, "god plays piano (bluegrass version)"
    • Fireflies, Moonlight, Coalmines, Chocolate (2005) "Acoustic neo-folk music in a crunchy chocolate shell with a gooey-sweet center"
    • Run Away EP (2005) Recorded by Richard Smith, and produced by Nashville/Austin super-sideman Matt Raum, this is Brooks' most polished record to date.
  • Dan May is a Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter, en route to another gig in Western PA. The complete collection includes:
    • Once Was Red (2005) Infectious pop melodies and clever lyrics that are sometimes tongue-in-cheek, sometimes filled with longing and loss, but always intelligent.
    • Roots and Wings (2005) A special edition EP that pays homage to family relationships and the bonds that exist between loved ones.
    • Fate Said Nevermind (2006) Featuring an eclectic mixture of swampy Louisiana guitar licks, bluesy piano, and the driving rhythm guitar which is his trademark.
  • Louis Lynch is director of the Harrisburg Harp Orchestra as well as the "Harp Rock Café."
    • Traditional Music for Irish Harp (2000) This early CD from Lou includes 14 classic tunes.
  • Also playing July 18 is a North Indian rock band led by Shakil Shamji.

Clover Lane Coffee House – August 15

Tickets for two to the August 15, 2008 Clover Lane Coffee House at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg (UCH), plus a collection of music to enjoy later. Six CDs donated by the artists; two tickets donated by the church. Face value $70. Minimum bid: $30

  • Jamie O'Brien has been a fixture on the Celtic folk scene since arriving from Ireland in 1990. This is his first appearance at Clover Lane.
    • Many's the Mile, Love... (2007) A diverse blend of tunes from traditional Irish to contemporary Celtic, with even a touch of Hawaiian.
    • My Wild Irish Boy (2004) Traditional songs, learned from family and friends on both sides of the Atlantic, performed by the guitarist and some of his musical friends, including our friend Henry Koretzky (mandolin).
    • Launie Tunes (1999) Cara Kelly (fiddle) and Jamie O'Brien (guitar), with a host of Pennsylvania friends.
  • EvAnn Hawley is an international accordion champion and a storyteller to boot. The set features both covers and her original compositions.
    • Unplugged Afternoon (2005) Eleven classics, played by the local accordion virtuoso.
  • Julie Moffitt is an amazing crossover: both classical pianist and folk musician (guitar). And her compositions are a mix of Rachmaninoff and Bob Dylan!
    • Cover to Cover (2007) A new collection of 14 of this singer/songwriter's favorite covers.
  • Moe Weimer (age 19) is a regular on the local Starbucks scene — accompanied by 30 or 40 young groupies! Catch him on guitar — or djembe, bells, and shakers.
    • Hello, Sunshine (2007) This debut CD by Moe Weimer and friends includes original songs and covers.

“Winter Afternoon” Paper Cutting

Hand-cut original artwork by our own Marcia Egan, American Guild of Papercutting member. This charming silhoutte papercutting shows children reading on a windowseat with a winter view. Professionally framed. Retail value is $100. Minimum bid: $40.
